A pregnant woman is cooking with a spider while trying to prevent her unborn baby from being bitten by a pregnant spider.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was cooking for her husband when she accidentally struck the spider while he was inside her house in the western Chinese city of Chongqing, according to local media reports.
The spider was not a dangerous spider, but the woman’s husband tried to take it out with a sharp object.
She said she did not want to harm the spider.
“I didn’t know it would be dangerous,” the woman told local media, according with The Beijing News.
“When I hit it with a knife, the spider got scared and stopped moving.
I then put it on the fire, and when it burnt down, I cooked with it,” the pregnant woman said, adding that she has since been diagnosed with the spider bite.
A local government official said a probe was being carried out and the woman would be interviewed.
The spider, which is about a centimetre long and is black with red markings, is about to return to China for a second year.
